Who we are
A crawlspace contractor built for Manitoba conditions
Winnipeg Crawlspace Pros is a local crawlspace specialist working across Winnipeg and the surrounding municipalities, from our office on Canora Street.
Most crawlspace advice available online was written somewhere else. It comes from the American southeast, where the enemy is year-round humidity, or from the west coast, where it is persistent rain. Both produce sensible-sounding recommendations that do not survive a Winnipeg winter. Our problem is a hard freeze to nearly two and a half metres, highly plastic Lake Agassiz clay that swells and shrinks through a wide seasonal range, and a spring melt that delivers a winter's worth of water onto ground that cannot absorb a drop of it.
That is why this company exists specifically for this region. The failures we see are regional failures: sunroom piers set above the frost line that have been lifting every January for thirty years; crawlspaces insulated between the floor joists so the space itself sits near outdoor temperature and frosts on the underside of the subfloor; sump discharge lines that ice up in a cold snap and back water into the house; barriers laid loose on clay that moves underneath them. None of these are exotic. They are what happens when a method developed for a milder climate is installed here unchanged.
We are a new business, and we would rather say that plainly than dress it up. What we bring is a disciplined method — go into the space, measure, trace the water to its source, correct in the right order, then measure again — and a willingness to put the findings in writing, including the cases where our honest recommendation is that you do nothing yet. The photographs and video on this site are from our own jobs. Customer reviews are a different matter — we have not been at this long enough to have earned a page of them, so that page says so. We are not going to invent testimonials to fill it.
How we work
- 01
Diagnosis before product
Crawlspace work is sold as products — barriers, pumps, dehumidifiers, posts. We treat it as diagnosis. Where is water arriving, how deep is the support founded, what is the framing moisture content, and is the space inside or outside the heated envelope? The products follow from the answers, not the other way round.
- 02
The right order, every time
Water management, then structure, then cleanup, then sealing, then conditioning. Almost every failed crawlspace we inspect was sealed before its water problem was solved, or insulated before its piers stopped moving. Doing the steps out of order is the most expensive mistake in this trade.
- 03
Numbers, not impressions
We measure moisture content in the framing and humidity in the space before we start and after we finish. A crawlspace that feels dry can be sitting at 22 percent moisture content in the joists. Readings remove the argument and give you a baseline to compare against next spring.
- 04
An honest "no" when it applies
A fair number of the crawlspaces we look at need longer downspouts, better grading and a follow-up reading — not a project. We would rather tell you that and earn the call when something real develops.
